Let the Denuding Continue

If a landmarked facade gets slowly hacked away, but no one is around to protest, does it really make a sound? That's the question we're asking ourselves after reading Power Play's latest update on the denuding of the old P.S. 64/CHARAS/El Bohio building in Alphaville. Writes Sarah Ferguson:

No angry picket, no CHARAS fans chaining themselves to the fence, no politicians grandstanding for the media, nada. Is this still the East Village? What gives? "Nobody cares," responded [owner Gregg] Singer, when asked whether anyone from the community or City Hall had contacted him to intervene in the destruction.

Kaboom! Singer's last laugh? Who knows, but do click through for a shot of the man himself surveying his workers' efforts.
