Half a Billion for the West Side Seat of Controversy

Exactly a year after the city officially lost its bid to host the 2012 Olympic-Sized Traffic Jam, Mayor Bloomberg along with Council Speaker Quinn and all their BFFs at City Hall are reaching under the sofa cushions to offer up $500 million for those 26 coveted West Side MTA acres known as Hudson Yards (right). You know, the former proposed Jets Stadium site we all loved to fight over before full attention was shifted Brooklyn-ward. For that price, the city would get both chunks of railyard on offer (east and west). Planned for the site? "A mixed-use commercial and residential district," plus parks, a cultural institution, and that ever-elusive Manhattan thing: "affordable housing."
