Yesterday's BuildingSpotter wasn't so hard to locate after all, Hitchcockian mood notwithstanding, as numerous commenters figured out it's in Murray Hill, at the corner of Lexington and 36th?No. 135 East 36th, to be exact. It's listed as the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Namibia, but we're not sure how much missioning is going on in there these days. Sez one commenter: "There was an explosion and fire in the building about two years ago... All of the windows got blown out. Never heard the full story as to what happened." The "Italianate style rowhouse designed by Thomas Kilpatrick and built c. 1856" was the subject of a Landmarks application last year "to alter window openings, demolish the existing rear yard addition, and construct a rear yard and rooftop addition," but it doesn't look like it was approved. Added dirt on this place is still welcome in the comments.
