It's worth following up with those cool kids down at NYU's Wagner School who've cobbled together the proposed redevelopment plan you see above for a vacant, contaminated Gowanus-side plot of land known as Public Place. (In theory, the area's visible from the F train as it comes above ground after Carroll Street.) Based on responses from various area stakeholders?sample quote: "Gowanus is like the Balkans"?they've come up with a mixed-use plan that includes residential and retail space, artists' galleries, a park, a playground, a dog run, a boat launch, and other embrace-the-canal motifs. Of course, there's no guarantee any of this will actually come about, but hey, we can dream.
