A tipster clued us into this unique Sotheby's listing for a $2.9 million loft just off Fifth Avenue by Union Square. What's so unique about it? You could probably tell from the pictures. It's a friggin' machine shop! A machine shop that is, however, in a "transitional building rapidly becoming more residential in character." The full-floor space is going to be delivered empty and converted into an apartment. A big apartment. And if you're wondering how this could possibly be a legal residence, the listing makes reference to those ever elusive "recent zoning changes." Check out the floorplan after the jump. Two elevators!
