A reader writes, "I live in an 'average' high-rise rental building on the upper east and a neighbor in the elevator mentioned their renewal notice was bumped from $3,000 to $4,000 for a standard 700 sf one bedroom. I moved into a similar one bedroom (one year lease) for slightly less money six months ago and the 33% rise seems quite high. At the time, the management company said the owner has never raised rent more than 4% and this had seem true up until now.
