CurbedWire: Mr. Rogers Is a Good Dude

1) Miscellaneous: Was Mr. Rogers really a shitty neighbor, as yesterday's report suggested? A reader offers this rebuttal: "Fred Rogers actually also had an apartment on the West Side, where I used to live. And, I swear, this is a true story. Got on the elevator one day, it stopped on a floor below mine, and this older guy gets on wearing one of those blazers with leather patches on the elbows. He sticks his hand out to me and say: 'Oh, you must be new in the building. I'm Fred Rogers.' I introduced myself and, as the elevator proceeded down, I turned to him and said: 'Wait a minute -- You're Mr. Rogers, right?' He responded: 'Yes, I am.' The doorman confirmed that he was, in fact, Mr. Rogers. And, contrary to the prior comment, the doorman (who was a bit of a cynic) confirmed that he was a nice guy." [CurbedWire Inbox]

2) Union Square: A neighborhood correspondent writes, "Someone has been doing site work for a condo for at least two years on 15th St. between 5th and 6th. Looks like they first had to remove some underground tanks and then began trying to drive some piles, but it's taking way too long. Can the soil be that bad? Maybe the union rat scared the workers away?" [CurbedWire Inbox]
