Constructoporn: Swedish Red Hook Ikea Edition

When last we checked in on the vast Ikea construction endeavor on 48 acres of Red Hook waterfront (next door to the Revere Sugar Plant), it was in the context of some missing rubble from ten demolished Civil War-era buildings set aside to fill in the historic graving dock on the property for parking. A reader has hit us off with some closeup shots of the construction site itself where piles are being driven and the first outlines of the big blue and yellow waterfront box are starting to show themselves. When all this began, Ikea had hoped for a 2006 opening, but the latest estimate for being able to head down to The Hook for your Aneboda bed frame and those little Ikea Swedish meatballs is next year.
