Is the often-discussed $650 million BAM Cultural District moving forward? Maybe. A progress report on the "new Left Bank - Brooklyn-style" is in today's Post. The city is apparently going to start soliciting bids on some of the projects as early as next month. The overall plan includes a theater and arts library, dance studio, public park, museum & gallery, underground parking and a residential highrise. The Frank Gehry-designed Theater for a New Audience is supposed to start construction next year. There would also be a dance studio inside a 20-story tower, half of whose apartments are supposed to be affordable. The project will also include a public plaza above underground parking and a Visual and Performing Arts Library, plans for the latter, however, appear stalled.
