Above, the northwest corner of Ninth Avenue and 14th Street, once the proud Meatpacking District home to Western Beef and Belgian restaurant Markt. With Markt's unceremonious closing on New Year's Day, both establishments are now empty—and the corner is free at last to live the dream of its long-awaited retail conversion into something we're fond of calling 401 West 14th Street. Anyone got updates on this project? (Frank Sciame, we're looking at you.)
