The mystery about that big, prime empty lot on Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg has been solved. It's going to be a parking lot. A tipster with camera emails
For those who wondered what would go up on the lot on Bedford Ave between North 11th and North 12th, the one with the beautiful view (sic) of McCarren Park (not to mention my apartment), I have the answer: A parking lot. Workers were on the property today doing some work, and the lot will open soon...I should make it clear that it doesn't appear that there will be any actual building done on the site, and I'm not even sure if it's going to be paved. The sign suggests that it will be a lot with attendant from 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM, and then you can make after hours arrangements, or something to that effect. The question begs, of course, does the neighborhood need this? Right now, no...The site was once home to a chemical factory that may have left some environmental issues behind, but more to the point, another tipster has written that its future is apparently the subject of an ownership disagreement. So, maybe, the parking lot is a compromise?
