The crappy smell that often wafts through Greenpoint is getting worse. The Eau de Merde emanates from the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, last seen in the context of its waterfront park, nature walk and picnic area. Today's amNY reports that "the smell has grown worse recently, more pungent, covering a wider swath of the neighborhood for more days out of the year." And, it's supposed to get worse before it gets better, making the prospect of marketing new condos in certain places on days when the wind is blowing the wrong way a fascinating challenge, if not the source of apologies for tragic flatulence. The good news is that "odor-causing potential will be greatly diminished by early 2009" when some "new thickening centrifuges will be in full operation." Joy.
