The Dr. Boom Building Goes Modern

Remember Dr. Boom's house, the Victorian brownstone on East 62nd Street that blew up when Dr. Nicholas Bartha is believed to have set off an explosion so his wife couldn't have it? Yesterday, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted 8-2 to allow a modern replacement for Boom House. LPC Chair Robert Tierney says the new house "relates well to the streetscape," although one of the dissenters called it a "missed opportunity for good design that isn't hostile." Speaking of hostile, perhaps the new owners wish to eschew gas and do something entirely solar powered? Or have a Boom Room?
