Does Walentas' Size Matter on Atlantic Ave.?

New, 9 comments

Most Brooklyn residents are so fixated on the eventual coming of Trader Joe's to Atlantic Avenue and Court Street, that they probably aren't paying much attention to the building next door that developer David and Jed Walentas wants to throw up next door. The issue boils down to ten feet of building height. Uh huh. But, it's a very important ten feet to some people. The issue is that building height is capped at 50 feet in the Cobble Hill Historic District. Among other exemptions, Mr. Walentas is applying for one to add another ten feet and there could be a City Council vote next week. In the words of the Brooklyn Paper, "Opponents fear that if the Walentases succeed, historic districts will be undermined forever." Sometimes, ten feet isn't just ten feet.
