New York City is going to get greener to the tune of a million trees, give or take, by 2030, and property owners and developers could be giving up some green to make the city green. The Sun reports the Department of City Planning is going to require property owners and developers to buy and plant a tree every 25 feet. It apparently costs the city $500-$800 per tree it plants, and it isn't clear which trees will qualify under the rule or who the Tree Police will be. As for fighting words, there are already objections to "forcing a tree on a homeowner."
