Over a year after the historic Tunnel Garage in Hudson Square was demolished while preservationists were trying to get the 1922 building landmarked, developer Donald Zucker's plans for the pit at 520 Broome Street have been unveiled. CityRealty reports that the NYC Board of Standards & Appeals granted a variance on the 9-story, 51-unit condo building plan after Community Board 2 rejected the same variance because Zucker would not guarantee that a bar or restaurant wouldn't be installed. Now he'll do whatever the heck he pleases, including building the Stephen B. Jacobs-designed glassfest. Be sure to wave hello on your way to the Holland Tunnel.
