The Latest in Building Inspector Fashion

The Department of Buildings has certainly been trying to step it up publicly of late. There's the Stop Work Order Patrol and some aggressive enforcement. And, now, "spiffy new uniforms" for inspectors. A department officials tells the Daily News that "it's really all about integrity, showing the world that these guys are out there and watching." The paper helpfully adds that DOB "has struggled for years to...end the perception that its inspectors are toothless or corrupt." Three hundred inspectors, engineers and supervisors will be wearing blue jackets, cargo pants and shirts indicating rank. Supervisors will have blue blazers. Frankly, we kind of wished the department had reached out to Roberto Cavalli or something, but maybe on the redesign.
