Coney Island isn't the only beachy spot in New York City getting a huge rezone. The Rockaway Peninsula is getting one too, and while it may attract a lot less attention than Brooklyn's Rezone by the Sea, it's not exactly going to be a loving and friendly process. Residents say that part of the plan will allow tall buildings on a very narrow part of the peninsula. In the words of one resident quoted in today's Daily News: "We live in a community that is very quiet. We don't need a piece of Manhattan on Beach 116th St." The rezone would allow taller, bigger buildings in a number of places and the process will wrap up sometime next year. More condos coming to the Rockaways.
