Brookyn Navy Yard May Grow a Little

New, 3 comments

Is the humongous Brooklyn Navy Yard going to grow? Maybe. The Post follows up on a report in Brownstoner a few weeks ago reporting on the Yard's big expansion plans that include four new acres of "land." How? "Silt and sediment" dredged from Wallabout Bay will be used to fill in 15-foot deep, unused basin off Kent Avenue. The created land would be used along with 12 nearby acres to create more than two million square feet of industrial, commercial and retail space. It may take a while, however. Part of the site, per Brownstoner, is a former gas plant that KeySpan is under court order to clean up and there could be some significant environmental analysis that goes with the dredging and big fill.
