Will eminent domain be used to complete the 17-acre Manhattanville parcel Columbia University needs to expand in Harlem in the West 120s and 130s? Well, the City Planning Commission won't be touching that one with a proverbial ten-foot poll. It's discussing and voting on the project today, but "is expected to sidestep" the issue of owners that aren't anxious to sell the property they have in the $6 billion footprint. Planning Commission Chair Amanda Burden says that the Big E, eminent domain, should be left up to the Empire State Development Corp., which is no stranger's to nasty fights over the taking of private property. The meeting starts at 1PM and the Columbia expansion is the top item on the agenda. Sometimes an approval is only the start of the fun.
