UPPER EAST SIDE? Time to change those reservations at the Hotel Pierre for early '08. A tipster relates that the "Hotel is currently calling all guests with reservations after 12/31/07 because they are doing a 'hard close' for renovation and closing all rooms in the hotel for an undisclosed amount of time. Banquet space will remain open. This is good--those rooms are a piece of crap and totally not worth $500+ a night." The renovation is going to cost $100 million and the reopening is scheduled for '09. [CurbedWire Inbox]

TRIBECA? More development is coming to glam Canal Street. Per a reader, "Coming back from the gym this morning I saw that the signs had gone up for the community board hearing for a new six story building at the corner of Greene and Canal. I bet in five years Canal will look very different." Starting, of course, with One York and related developments. [CurbedWire Inbox]

SOHO? Our final item is from an email that hit our inbox from the Soho Repertory Theater about a production by the Nature Theater of Oklahoma, which is looking for space for a winter performance. They write: "We have our own theater, but we want to do this show in an interesting non-theater space – any space with some character where you wouldn’t normally see theater. On the European tour, they’ve been doing it in empty offices, storefronts, cafeterias, etc. They did it in an abandoned Duane Reade in Philadelphia. We need the space for most of December. But, there’s one caveat: we don’t have a ton of money for this. We’re a small non-profit, and there’s no way we can pay market-rate rent on a space for a month. We need a space that’s either abandoned or in limbo – one that the owner would be excited about donating or renting cheaply to one of the city’s most esteemed theaters." [CurbedWire Inbox]
