[The scene at 211-213 Pearl Street, 11:04am this morning]
The questions about whether the demolition of the historic, 1830s-era warehouse at 213 Pearl Street would begin today have been answered: hell yes! Curbed operatives hit the scene just before 11am this morning to find sparks flying as construction workers dangling from a basket dangling from a crane undertook the by-hand demolition of the collapse-prone building. First to come down: the upper level of the fire escape, by way of blowtorch. No question this one's going to take a few weeks to demolish at this achingly slow rate. Anyhoo, onwards.
