Officials Say Brooklyn's Admiral's Row Has Got to Go

New, 18 comments

Yesterday, the city announced plans to save and rehab an historic building at the sprawling Brooklyn Navy Yard for the Brooklyn Navy Yard Historical Center. The old Admiral's Row buildings a few blocks away, however, are looking more and more like toast every day. The subject of the fate of the buildings, which the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corp. plans to demolish as part of a supermarket project, came up yesterday. The bulldozers are still on the way as the Development Corp's President, Andrew Kimball said the buildings "would have to be rebuilt from the ground up." Not to worry, history fans. The museum might have "an interactive map" with photos and info about Admiral's Row. Perhaps a plaque in the supermarket parking lot, too? No word on when Demolition Day will come or whether all the photos have been taken.
