Penthouse at The Mark Did Change the World

New, 23 comments

Real estate icon Louise Sunshine was telling anyone who would listen that the conversion of The Mark hotel on East 77th Street and Madison Avenue was going to grab headlines once the sales drive started. Indeed! The buzz was centered around the rumored $60 million price tag on The Mark's penthouse, but that's peanuts in hindsight. The Post's Braden Keil reports today that billionaire Leonard Blavatnik is paying $150 million for the top three floors of the building, what would be the biggest home transaction in U.S. history. Je. Sus. Christ. Harry Macklowe, sit down sir! The five combined units Blavatnik would be buying total nearly 30,000-square-feet, with almost 4,000-square-feet of outdoor space. If you want to beat out 17 other rich dudes, you have to step your game up, and that's what Len did. Did we mention that he bought Edgar Bronfman's East 64th Street townhouse for $50 million ... last week? Clearly this man is insane, and we're loving it! For once, Louise Sunshine had no comment, so we'll see how this plays out.
