December 10, 2003 doesn't carry quite the same instant recognition as, say, December 7, 1941, but for Atlantic Yards opponents who curse all things Bruce Ratner, the tenth of December (today!) is also a date that will live in infamy. On this day four years ago, Forest City Ratner officials publicly unveiled the Atlantic Yards plan?millions of square feet of office, residential and arena space to take over the Vanderbilt Rail Yards in Prospect Heights. Develop Don't Destroy Brooklyn marks the occasion by pointing out that the project overview stated the Barclay's Center would be completed in time for Carter, Kidd and gang to ball it up for this current season. Oops. And if Hallmark made a landgrabiversary card, this would be DDDB's inscription: "Today we mark four years of fighting what has become the poster child for abusive development, development that subverts democracy, eminent domain abuse, bad government, developer and architect hubris, opaque financing, poor planning (etc.) across the city and beyond." Four years ... is that wood or paper?
