The Catch: Bed-Stuy Garden Has a Touch of Slate

New, 7 comments

What/Where: A one-bedroom, $1,500-per-month rental at Marcy Avenue and Monroe Street in Bed-Stuy.
Looks Good, Right?: Well, it's not necessarily cheap, but the Craigslist listing speaks at length about how the owner has painstakingly restored and renovated the apartment: "One room has original marble floors that have been restored to their original condition, plantation shutters, a decorative fireplace, exposed pipes, and distressed double doors (can be painted if you want). Glass french doors lead to another room with beautiful hardwood floors. The eat in kitchen has granite countertops and brand new stainless steel appliances." And here's the clincher: "landscaped private garden with a slate patio." Score!
The Catch: We've had some trouble with other garden apartments lately, but surely this one checks out, right? Right?

As a tipster put it, "It's a fucking junkyard with a chain link fence around it." Game. Set. Catch.
