More information and rumors are leaking out about the sale and possible condo conversion of the Devonshire House, a classy Emery Roth-designed pre-war rental building at 28 East 10th Street, near University Place. As reported, the sale did go ahead. Here's what we've cobbled together: The new owner is Devonshire Associates, a group of five that came together to buy the building, renovate it and sell it off as condos. Cooper Square Realty is now managing the Dev. Leases are no longer being renewed, and renovations include central heat and air, and extending the elevator to the basement for 24/7 laundry room access. Fun! Units will also be combined wherever possible, such as the A and B units, to create combined 3BR, 2.5BA apartments. The condos may hit the market at around $1,700/sf. None of this is confirmed, of course, but a little Central Village speculation never hurt anyone. Except, maybe, the renters at the Devonshire House.
