What Made Washington Heights More Tolerable in '07

Continuing the year-end theme of this lazy week, uptowner The Gay Recluse is live with a list of the most improved corners in Washington Heights. We're not talking methadone-to-Miu Miu transformations here, but things are happening in the WaHI, especially the long-stagnant stretch of Broadway between 155th and 168th Streets. Above, the silver and gold medalists, respectively. The Starbucks at 168th Street takes second place because it's "where you can find a true cross-section of the neighborhood," (really!) and first prize goes to Los Amigos flower stand at 161st Street for turning a scary drug-dealer infested corner to a land of rainbows and joy. Yes, but do they serve gingerbread lattes?
