There is a press conference later today to talk about the fact that one of the Duffield Street Underground Railroad Homes won't be demolished after all, but when the dust settles, it's going to be one very lonely little building in a row of tall hotels. One of its new neighbors will be the Indigo Hotel and today's Post notes that the groundbreaking will be December 11. The hotel is a $60 million Karl Fischer creation and will be 23 stories tall and have "180 amenity-rich rooms, a rooftop bar, a swanky restaurant and 17,000 square feet of new retail." The Indigo is going up where a VIM store now stands at 237 Duffield. The property recently sold for $9.5 million. Other hotels on Duffield Street will include Sheraton and Aloft hotels with a combined 500 rooms. Nearly 2,000 rooms are planned for downtown and environs by 2012. When all is said and done, it's either a great time for Brooklyn hotels or the start of a big glut of rooms.
