Bowery Whole Foods Opening: T-Minus 37 Days

After eons of waiting that ended up inspiring a Curbed contest, we at last have been blessed with an opening date for the Bowery Whole Foods. Emails a representative from the earthmother, "We’re not sure where the betting pool currently stands on the Whole Foods Bowery/Houston opening but the official release below should determine your winner(s). Because of all the chatter on Curbed regarding the opening, we wanted you to be the first to receive the release."

Mark your calendars, friends: Thursday, March 29, at 8am. Curbed judges are currently sifting through the betting pool entrants to identify the likely winner; official awarding will take place once the store actually opens its doors.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Whole Foods Market to Open Its Doors at Bowery and Houston on March 29th
Natural and Organic Supermarket Will Bring the ‘Next Generation’ of Supermarkets to the Lower Eastside

(New York City – February 21, 2007) – Whole Foods Market® (NASDAQ: WFMI), the world’s leading natural and organic foods supermarket and America’s first national certified organic grocer, will open its fourth New York City store on Thursday, March 29 at 8 a.m. The new store, located at the corner of Bowery and Houston in the Lower Eastside, is the company’s 192nd store.

“We are truly excited about opening our Bowery location. There will not be just one or two unique features within this store – but dozens! The next generation of food retail will be right here in New York City!” said Christina Minardi, president of Whole Foods Market’s Northeast Region.

The new Bowery Houston location will feature the company’s first-ever Fromagerie, featuring exclusive aged cheeses from Herve Mons; multiple sit-down dining venues and a large café accommodating more than 299 people; and a culinary center where New Yorkers can learn cooking skills from Whole Foods Market chefs and other top-rated chefs from around the city.

Additionally, the new Whole Foods Market will be among the most “green” supermarkets in New York City with a more eco-friendly refrigerating system, recycled materials used for green construction and a source-separation of organic waste for composting.
