East Village: Regarding the above building on 12th between A & B, a reader writes, "This building has sprung up almost overnight across the street from me. It's in the middle of the block on the north side. I know nothing about it except the obvious:

1) There is only one balcony type structure for the second floor. There is no way out to it in the shape of a door, nor is there any rhyme or reason as to why it is even there. My next thought was a fire escape but its only on the second floor, isn't that a little strange? 2) Assuming this new building is rising straight up out of the ground (No assumption can be made because of point 1) the building next to it should be considered "The Leaning Tenement of East Villaga"; someone should call the landmark society. At the top it looks like a 1 foot wide gap is forming and growing with each floor of this new building.

3) I love how this new building has completely blocked all the windows on the buildings next to it. They use to have ACs and what not in them, kind of sucks to be a rent stabilized tenement dweller in a housing boom.

"Any info would be nice, I can't wait to see what they charge for an apartment in there considering the East Village is now completely overrun by NYU students/ post-hipsters. I hope Mommy and Daddy don't have to dig too deep into their pockets to buy the only apartment with a balcony!"
