Walk on the Rundown Side in Flushing Meadows Park

Last week, we touched on the upcoming redevelopment of the Iron Triangle (iTri, for short) near Shea Stadium. Today, we turn to Shea's nearby neighbor Flushing Meadows Park, home of the Unisphere and the Philip Johnson-designed rotting hulk known as the former New York State Pavilion, which has been seeking a White Knight for a looong time. We're more familiar, of late, dealing with parks that are real estate development deal-park hybrids. But, Flushing Meadows is the real deal, a huge expanse of Queens green that's really shitty in places. Queens Crap has run a five-part photo essay on the rot which you can check out here, here, here, here and here. And, today, Forgotten-NY also put up a new page on the park. Put it all together and it's fascinating clicking in a deteriorated kind of way.
