Add a new spot to the list of Brooklyn closings: The Empire Roller Skating Center in Crown Heights. Rumors were making the rounds that big box retailer Costco was interested in buying the property, but they were wrong. It turns out the property's been sold and will become a storage facility. The new City Limits had checked out possible sources of opposition to any deal or redevelopment of the 30,000 square foot rink. There's apparently a new Project Save Empire which has an online petition. Local blogger Across the Park is suggesting "grassroots organizers...make a stink." Last skate seems to be April 23.
