Huzzah! Meatpacking District Now Historic

After six long years of waiting, the Meatpacking District can finally exhale. The area has formally been added to New York state's list of historic places, meaning property owners are now be eligible for tax breaks, as well as grants for preserving and rehabilitating their buildings. The district encompasses the area between Hudson and Washington streets and West 15th and Horatio streets. In 20 years, parents will be able to bring their kids to the area and point out the buildings that housed some of NYC's most historic establishments, like Markt, Double Seven and of course, Western Beef. Who says New York City doesn't care about it's past?
