Looks like Greenpoint's Eberhard Faber Pencil complex, part of which is already being demolished and redeveloped, may be preserved. At least, the Landmarks Preservation Commission has put five Eberhard Faber buildings on its calendar for landmark consideration. Locals have been fighting hard to save the complex, especially after the Greenpoint Terminal Market was flambéed last May. Since then, Eberhard has been one of the biggest remaining industrial structures on the Williamsburg-Greenpoint waterfront, other than the old Domino Sugar Plant, which there is also a push to landmark. The progress is reported by the Waterfront Preservation Alliance of Williamsburg & Greenpoint. There's actually an "Eberhard Faber Historic District" up for consideration. Several other buildings in the complex, however, are already in the midst of an extreme makeover. No landmarking for them.
