BREAKING: Second Avenue Subway Construction Begins

Not ceremonial-groundbreaking-begins, but actually-begins! A Curbed correspondent on the Upper East Side sends along the above photo and this note: "Today is the 1st day they had two lanes of 2nd ave blocked off from 96-91st. As I turn from 94th onto 2nd and wait at the light at 93rd street most mornings, I will be able to provide regular updates from the front lines." Doubters among us (including, um, us), the moment of doubt is over. Now is the time to believe. The space-aged future is nearly upon us—if "nearly" can be construed to mean "a decade or two from now, give or take."
