Brick by Brick, Chumley's Chimney Coming Down

[Looking down toward 86 Bedford Street, 12:23pm today]

It's go time at 86 Bedford Street, home to the temporarily-shuttered bar Chumley's. Curbed and Eater operatives have just departed the construction scene where brick-by-brick removal of the chimney got underway this morning. (You may recall that it was the partial collapse of said chimney that destabilized the building back on April 5.) An official on the scene told Curbed they'd get the chimney down the roof line today, then take measures to temporarily stabilize the building from the inside. Then, the interior portions of the chimney would be taken down and the remaining walls reinforced. Estimated project time: six months. Onward.
