It took us a minute to get to this today, but the Brooklyn House of Detention issue is back. Specifically, the issue of reopening the jail at Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street, doubling the inmate population and putting in ground floor retail. How this will go over with the Luxe + Pop condo buyers across Smith Street or guests at the boutique Smith Hotel or residents at other luxury condos or guests at the new hotel planned pretty much across the street is an open question. But if the retail is really, really nice and they put a condo-like facade on the place, anything's possible.
