After getting smacked down by its local community board in February, the Chelsea Seminary has thrown in the towel on its 15-story residential tower (right). But given that the Seminary desperately needs to raise millions of dollars to pay for repairs on its annex between 20th and 21st Streets, they're going to try again. Per the Sun, the new vision is a half-sized version of the last plan: a seven-story mixed-use residential building on Ninth Ave., plus a five-story administrative building on 20th. The plan, of course, will require Landmarks approval, which means we certainly haven't heard the last of this saga. Woo-eee.
A hard but simple truth: if God had wanted the Seminary to build a giant glass tower, He would have situated the Seminary on the Lower East Side to begin with.
