Looks like the Brooklyn House of Detention--you know, the one across the street from Luxe + Pop that will bring us endless headline writing joy for years to come--may get supersized. The Economic Development Corp.'s "request for expressions of interest" is talking about a 165,000 square foot expansion for 720 inmate beds and two towers with 238,500 square feet of residential or commercial space. Also an "urban plaza" at ground level and, of course, ground floor retailing. (Catch an interesting possible look at the shape of things to come with the story here.) Oh, and "dormitory-style" cells.
