Following on yesterday's CurbedWire report that activists will rally tonight as part of the ongoing effort to preserve the PS 64 building, aka CHARAS/El Bohio, at Avenue B and 9th Street, there's fresh news concerning the threatened St. Brigid's Church right around the corner on Avenue B. Per the activist website savestbrigid.com—and a slew of flyers blanketing Alphabet City—an appellate court tomorrow will rule on the church's future.
When last we left St. Brigid's, the 158-year-old church had its demolition permit stayed, but faced the bizarre catch-22 that Landmarks wouldn't consider it for landmarking because it had an outstanding demolition permit. We're not entirely clear what tomorrow's court ruling portends, so if you've got the scoop, let us know in the comments.
