Lowdown: We've already come clean about our not being fans of this one, and there's something backhanded about the way CityRealty calls it "handsome," but 50 Orchard still deserves some attention, as does everything in the good ol' Lower East Side. Phase One was nine condos in an eight-story building, and now we're on to Phase Two: a 10-story addition with two units per floor. Five units released so far, and here's some of what you're looking at: no doorman but a maintenance-charge-friendly video intercom system and keyed elevator access to "many homes," roof deck, washer/dryer in every unit, storage bins and ceilings that measure in at just over 9'. The usual steel in the kitchen and yatta yatta yatta in the bathrooms. Sadly, we're not seeing much that differentiates 50 Orchard from the pack on first glance, besides easy access to Guss' half-sours. Your take?
