Streets Blog reports that the sidewalk expansion and bike rack project at the Bedford Avenue L stop in Williamsburg is done. To do it, 76 feet worth of sidewalk was widened by five feet and some parking spaces were removed. According to the Department of Transportation, it's the "first time car parking spaces have been removed to accommodate bicycle parking in New York City." It adds parking for 30 bikes, which might help cut down on police seizures of illegally parked bikes. Or not.
