Williamsburg Giglio Festival Prompts Smiles

The old neighborhood had its turn on Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg the last couple of weeks with the Giglio Feast, culminating in the lifting of the Giglio, a unique thing that involves hundreds of people hoisting a three-ton, 80-foot-tall statue and carrying it down the street. Yesterday's lift, from which the photo above showing deep bliss comes, was the final such Sunday lifting. (Sorry, you'll have to wait until next year to see it again.) In case you're curious, the lift takes place a couple of blocks from Karl Fischer Row along McCarren Park. The festival, in fact, surrounded by major Williamsburg real estate development both current and future.
