We have good news and bad news. The good news is that we've found a $99 a night NYC hotel room! It's at the Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge. What's the bad news, you say, in a town where cheap room are easily two hundred bucks? The Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge is in Gowanus on a particularly, uh, industrial part of Butler Street. Not that we don't appreciate the gritty charm of the nabe, mind you, but here's some of the marketing verbiage:
The hotel is situated in a commercial neighborhood, but the upscale shops and restaurants of trendy Cobble Hill and Park Slope are just minutes away. Brooklyn's scenic Prospect Park and the famous attractions and beaches at Coney Island are also nearby. Also "minutes away" are Brooklyn College, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Brooklyn Museum. The original prices when the hotel opened a few weeks back were $189 a night and up, so $99 is a major deal, but boy what we'd give for photos of the faces of visitors that haven't done their research and arrive at the Comfort Inn Brooklyn Bridge not expecting, you know, to be by the Brooklyn Bridge and/or Park Slope rather than almost across the street from the flushing pump for the Gowanus Canal.
