On the Racked: Soho's Retail Transformation Cruises Along, Bowery Promoted as Next Glowing Retail Frontier

And now, the latest from Racked, covering shopping and retail from the sidewalks up.

On the right, the Iceberg Army Navy space at 455 Broadway that will soon be home to America's first Muji store. On the left, the bright orange plywood of what we believe will be Crate & Barrel's CB2 flagship. Broadway will look a lot different in a few months.

1) Soho: The neighborhood continues to be the center of new store hotness. This week, Racked has word of new menswear store hickey coming to Grand Street, a photographic look inside the new Forever 21 on Broadway and Prince, and confirmation that it will indeed by Hollister opening a flagship store in the old Pottery Barn space on Broadway just below Houston. Whew.

2) Upper East Side: There's already a Pottery Barn Kids store at 69th and Second Avenue, so what might the company open in its space on 77th and Second? The answer may shock and astound you.

3) East Village/Noho: The CBGB space on The Bowery still stands empty, but that doesn't mean the owners don't see beautiful things ahead for the neighborhood. Beautiful, commercialized things!

4) Riverdale: The neighborhood becomes the latest in the five boroughs to give into the allure of Starbucks. But before the mermaid arrives, let's take a moment to remember what once was, uh, Empire Hunan. Farewell!
