Advertecture Fights Back: It's a 'Revenue Source'

Wasn't the city supposed to be cracking down on our old friend, advertecture? Yes, it was. But soon, there may be less to crack down on. Today's Sun brought word that advertecture posted on sidewalk sheds and scaffolding may be legalized because, in the word's of a City Council bill's sponsor, it's "a very good revenue source." The system would create a new building permit that building owners could buy so they could lease space on sidewalk sheds to advertisers. It's not entirely clear which parts of the sheds it would be okay to plaster with ads and whether it will encourage mega-adversheds. At last count, there were 5,160 sidewalk sheds in the city, so that's a lot of possible permits, ads and money. Expect discussion.
