Flatiron Cleans Up Its Act

Have you noticed a kinder, gentler 23rd Street lately? It's no mistake. In the latest dispatch from the Flatiron/23rd Street Partnership Business Improvement District (whew!), there's an update on the graffiti/clutter crackdown that's currently in full swing, thanks to the Clean Team. The Clean Team? The Clean Team! Details: "In addition to a dedicated maintenance worker, who removes graffiti and stickers and paints fixtures throughout the district three days a week, one night each week, a specialized crew with power-washing equipment scrubs sidewalks and removes graffiti from walls, security gates, mailboxes and traffic signs." Truth is, we wouldn't be talking about this at all if it weren't for the slightly mesmerizing before-and-after photos (warning: PDF) provided by the Flatiron BID. Take that, newspaper publishing industry! Kapow! Try to confuse motorists now, Madison Square deathtrap! Bam! Man, these are fun.
