CurbedWire: Above the Stairway to Nowhere, Russian Orthodox Luxe, Mediterranean-Style Scarano

TIMES SQUARE?Behold the progress on the Stairway to Nowhere in Times Square, aka the new TKTS booth, as seen from above. It almost looks like it's reaching for Chop Suey, which has the stairway view. [CurbedWire Staff]

UPPER EAST SIDE?Looks like renting space to shoot Gossip Girl doesn't pay the bills. Per an email: "The Russian Orthodox Synod of Bishops, which occupies the Baker mansion (71-75 East 93rd St @ the corner of Park Ave) is planning on turning the main building (no. 75) into luxury rental apartments...To do this, they are planning on building up two floors over the ballroom (nos. 71 & 73) and vacating the main building. This is a landmarked building in a landmarked block, but they plan on getting around the landmarks committee by pleading financial hardship...It seems that renting out the space for the filming of Gossip Girl is just not bringing in enough rubles. This building is used for interior and exterior school shot in the show." [CurbedWire Inbox]

WILLIAMSBURG?A reader fills in come detail on our post about the Bob & Hot Karl Fingers and the odd brickwork in front of the Scarano Finger: "Apparently, the entrance of the building will be filled with a 'Mediterranean-style' garden (inside the red-brick arches in front of the building). I'm not sure how that is going to work in Williamsburg's not-at-all Mediterranean-style climate. Not to mention that it seems completely useless - the space isn't big enough to actual hang out in, so I'm assuming the purpose is to enjoy it for the 15 seconds one spends walking between the entrance and the front door. Ridiculous." [CurbedWire Inbox]
