We didn't put two and two together when discussing developer Kaish & Taub's 21-story glass condo building planned for 160 East 22nd Street. Maybe we were distracted by the Times' report that a deck will be built over a three-story holdout building, and that deck will include a gym and outdoor pool. But as it turns out, this is the same building as the bizarro Fortress of Solitude that we mentioned in October. Here it is on K&T's website, and as you can see, the Kutnicki Bernstein design has been polished up for the new year. Plus, it looks like there were originally more holdouts willing to sell off some air rights. An old rendering shows more low-rise buildings worked into the new tower. Writes one resident of those now doomed walk-ups: "unfortunately I am in one of the buildings being knocked down. Would've been nice if I didn't have to read about it in the paper." Ouch.
